Being chased by the light

August 9, 2016 Paul Grogan Photography

I headed up to the Peak District last week with Sam (my eldest son) in the hope to get the heather in full bloom and explore an area I had visited once a couple of years ago. Destination was Millstone Edge, near Hathersage.

A lesson learnt?

March 23, 2016 Paul Grogan Photography

I’m going to look at last summer for and the Peak District for today’s landscape photograph of the week. The location in question was Froggatt Edge, a gritstone escarpment in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District National Park, in Derbyshire. It sits close to the villages of Froggatt, Calver, Curbar, Baslow and Grindleford and is easily accessible via a footpath off the A625.

Should you crop your landscape photograph to improve it?

The original uncropped landscape photograph.

The original uncropped landscape photograph.

A gloomy day today, so I thought I'd post a favourite Peak District landscape photograph from earlier in the year. I drove up to Carhead Rocks - a beautiful little location that overlooks Hope Valley and Stanage Edge - back in April with my eldest son, Sam, in tow for a sunset.

Second chances

September 7, 2015 Paul Grogan Photography

So often, after a landscape, wedding or commercial photoshoot, there is a degree of urgency to get the images processed and either live for publicity or to the client. This is usually down to deadlines. But sometimes, it really is worth taking a look back at the discarded photographs with a fresh pair of eyes.

Photographing from the edge of the world

July 20, 2015 Paul Grogan Photography

Back to the Peak District for todays landscape photograph of the week. I've been to Stanage Edge a number of times now and each time I've been treated to completely different light and atmosphere.

Split second anticipation to capture that wedding memory
about a year ago

So September's Wedding Photograph of the month comes from Emma and Gary’s wedding earlier in the month. Another fantastic day was spent from bridal preparation though to the first dance.

Logistical problems surrounding photoshoots
about 2 years ago

At least being a commercial photographer isn't boring. Far from it in fact. I write this post in a non moaning manner. I try and avoid negative posts - so this won’t be one. However I think it’s important to understand that in the case of photography, time literally is money.

August's Wedding photograph of the month

Later than planned here’s my choice for August’s wedding photo of the month. Taken at Whitehead Gardens in Bury, next door to Bury’s Registry office it just summed up the wedding and the lovely bride and groom.
